It’s hard to even begin to try to summarize what a crazy year 2019 was for us. Not only did we pack up our lives and move across an ocean, we also expanded to a family of three. We documented a great deal of our adventures in 2019 via both photos and videos, and I finally took some time to compile them all into a short montage of our momentous year.
2019 Highlights
Find out we’re Expecting
After trying for a few months, we found out that Ellie was pregnant in early January 2019. This was after we had already committed to the Germany move, so we knew we were in for quite a busy year!
Moving to Germany
In late 2018, Ellie spotted some openings for a couple different Pharmacist positions with the U.S. Military in Germany. She quickly got accepted, and while it was a huge decision to uproot our lives and move to a new country, we knew we couldn’t pass up such a great opportunity. We packed up all of our things and hopped on a one-way flight to Germany in May 2019.
Traveling Europe
Once we got settled in our new home, we knew we wanted to travel as much as we could before the baby arrived. In a few short months we explored our surroundings here in Germany and also visited Belgium, France, and Luxembourg! I also got to visit the Netherlands for a quick work trip.
The Birth of our Son
Our son, Orion, was born in the middle of September, slightly over a week late (already a procrastinator like his dad!). Both Ellen and I took a bunch of time off for parental leave, and that time flew by very quickly. We also had lots of family visits to help us out and most importantly, give us time to nap!
Exploring as a Family of Three
Soon enough, we got back to enjoying our time in Europe. We all experienced our first real Germany Christmas Markets together and got to see some more of this beautiful country.

We’ve already started making travel plans for the upcoming Spring and Summer seasons. Orion is growing up so fast and we can’t wait for warmer weather to bring us more opportunities to take advantage of our great location. I’m also hoping to write some more posts and make some more videos about our adventures in 2019, so stay tuned!
